Top 10 Places to Take Photos in Virginia Beach

You can’t have a list of the top 10 places to take family photos in Virginia Beach without talking about the actual beach!

There is something about the sand and sea that soothes the soul, and it is the perfect place for a photo shoot!

We don’t usually recommend the Virginia Beach oceanfront (way too crowded during tourist season), so here are three of our favorite sandy spots:

1) Fort Story: Dane and Raven’s Engagement Session

You have to have military access for this place, but it is SO worth it!

There are rocks you can (carefully) climb on, a historic lighthouse, and having the sun set right over the water.

Please Note – client will be responsible for acquiring any necessary permissions as well as base access for photographer.

2) The North End: The Greene Family Session

Far away from the crowded boardwalk, this place has seagrass, dunes, and sees the sun setting over the water.

It’s a great, quiet place to enjoy the beach.

Plus there is a picturesque boardwalk that leads out to the sand we can also utilize for pictures.

3) Chix Beach: Photo Shoot Under the Pier

My go-to beach location, and you’ll see why when you click the link!

This spot has it all: sea grass, waves cresting on the beach, a beautiful pier, and sunset views every time.

Plus, one of the best parts about this being a local’s beach is the fact that we don’t have as many tourists to deal with!

If beach life isn’t your jam, we have a bunch of other options!

4) Lake Lawson: Hackett Family Photo Shoot

The combination of the forest and water make this a favorite of mine!

Typically we start out in the woods, then make our way over to the floating dock, and river walkway.

5) Town Center Virginia Beach: Classy Engagement Session

In the heart of Virginia Beach, this location will give you all the big city vibes while staying local.

My favorite photos are the ones in front of the fountain, but there are so many beautiful spots to photograph!

Her red dress is pretty epic, and the colors are to die for!

6) Stumpy Lake Natural Area: McFarland Family Sunset Session

The fall colors are SO gorgeous in this one!

Depending on where you go, we’ve got water, tall grass, and woods to play in during the photoshoot.

7) Regent University Campus: Tarra and Phil Engagement

All the stone and brick architecture make this place so unique!

And the stone bridge is pretty iconic – definitely a must-visit place for pictures!

8) Woodstock Park: Brian and Tamarra Engagement Shoot

Who says you can’t make magic in a little park?!

Yes, it’s widely touted as a dog park/kids playground, but this is one of the best kept secrets in Virginia Beach!

9) Pleasure House Point: Kimberly & Jake Engagement Session

There is a little something for everyone at this beautiful spot.

There are plenty of sandy paths, woodsy trees, lakes, and lots of tall grass.

Plus you have the opportunity to take photos by the water, as well as in the forest.

Both of these beautiful locations are tucked away in neighborhoods and you would never know they existed.

But these two spots are absolutely gorgeous and a beautiful place to take photos for any type of occasion.

Families have plenty of room to run around and play, engaged couples have lots of options for romantic portraits, and it is even perfect for a bridal session.
