Every year, Eric and I always try and host a few events during the summer months. Our aim is to bring people together and build up our local photography community. A few weeks ago we held a headshot swap, and last weekend we hosted a Summer posing class.

I think that one of the biggest mistakes I see being made is that photographers are over thinking their poses. I always tell people, if it doesn’t feel right within about 10 seconds, then we’re gonna move onto something else. There are so many different things we could do, there’s no sense wasting time on things that don’t work.

Summer Posing Class

It’s no secret that a lot of photographers struggle with posing people. It can be tough when you’re at a photo shoot and the client look at you and says: “okay, what do you want us to do?” And then you go into a panic because (in your head) you’re thinking, “oh man, what do I want you to do?!

But working with people doesn’t have to be hard!

In this summer posing class, we talked about working with clients, putting them at ease, and recognizing the best way to pose your subject. With an awesome group of students, as well as two awesome couples who came to model (thanks Jennifer and Kevin, and Justine and Jay!), we had the perfect recipe for success.
