Not that I’m biased, but these stunning headshots honoring women entrepreneurs ROCK!

Here in Hampton Roads, female founders are building businesses, breaking barriers, and making waves in their industries.

To celebrate their hard work and dedication, I launched a Women’s History Month headshot project designed to showcase their brilliance.

Each portrait captures the essence of these powerful women and the impact they’re making.

Join me as we take a look at the faces and stories behind this inspiring project!

YorkPoint Digital ~ Sydney Gahr

I’m the founder and digital strategist behind YorkPoint Digital. Since 2019, I’ve been fusing my love for design, strategy, and problem-solving to empower brands through digital marketing. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from George Mason University and currently pursuing my Master of Science in Marketing at William & Mary, I thrive on staying ahead of industry trends while balancing life in Yorktown with my spirited hound-mix, Luna.

What inspires you most about being a woman in your industry?

As a woman in marketing, I’m inspired by the ability to connect with a variety of audiences on a deeper level.

Using empathy and understanding, I create beautiful, user-friendly websites that resonate with clients’ target audiences.

I’m particularly drawn to the challenge of pushing boundaries in design, transforming obstacles into intuitive solutions, and ultimately helping brands tell their stories in dynamic ways.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other women pursuing their dreams?

Stay authentic and take little bets on yourself.

Embrace a growth mindset where each challenge is an opportunity to learn and celebrate small wins as stepping stones to success.

I highly recommend reading Little Bets by Peter Sims. This book encapsulates the essence of experimenting, redefines luck as the outcome of your readiness to seize unexpected opportunities, and encourages you to remain curious.

Let your willingness to take calculated risks guide you toward groundbreaking achievements.

The Foodie Mama ~ Angie Z.

PA born and relocated to VB in 2004 where I was a teacher for 9 years and stopped teaching after I had my first daughter. After 17 years of marriage to my hubby, we now have three children. My journey with Tastefully Simple started about 12 years ago, and I’ve curated my Foodie Mama, LLC into a business I love and am so passionate about. The fact that I am able to help other families relieve stress during dinner time and also work around my own family’s crazy academic and sport schedule is the best.

What inspires you most about being a woman in your industry?

I think most people stereotype “women in the kitchen”. However, now more than ever, businesswoman are working more and giving their all towards their careers and their families and could use a little extra help! Being passionate about cooking makes me think we should all find what we love and go with it! I LOVE giving back and helping other families have more time in their lives to do whatever it is they choose…while still having home cooked meals!

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other women pursuing their dreams?

Find what you LOVE to do and make it work in your life.

We all can’t be good at everything so kick ass at your thing and allow others to help you with their things!

Belle Events ~ Jobelle Harris

Hi, my name is Jobelle Harris. I am the owner and Lead Wedding Planner of Belle Events, a wedding planning company here in the Hampton Roads area. I offer planning and coordination services. And recently, I was granted ordination to officiate a wedding in Virginia. My wonderful husband Bernard and I have been married for 8 years, and I am a mother of 2 boys – 16 and 7 years old. In addition to running my wedding planning business, I also worked full-time as a Senior Merchandise Planner at a military exchange. After finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services at Old Dominion University, next step was pursuing my Master’s In Business Administration degree at Longwood University.

What inspires you most about being a woman in your industry?

Having a successful wedding, whether a small or big wedding, is a woman’s dream. To see the brides in their beautiful wedding dresses meeting their groom at the altar, with all the smiles on their faces and not worrying about anything – this is what every bride wished for. It makes me grateful to know that I can provide that feeling to my clients.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other women pursuing their dreams?

“If you never chase your dreams, you will never catch them.” As a woman, you may think it is not easy to start a business, lead, work a full-time job, while we still keep the house in order, and even provide full time care for children as a parent. But if you know your desires, your strengths, and your worth, you have to pursue your dreams. You rather find out whether you are able to work it out or not, than wondering forever whether you could’ve done it or not.
