Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Doing an engagement shoot at Harbor Park (home of the Norfolk Tides!) is a sports lovers dream! Nothing says “fun summer engagement session ideas” like a trip to the ballgame! You’ve got the bleachers, ballfield, and who wouldn’t love to stroll hand in hand through the dugout?!

Retro Roller Rink

The Macarthur Roller Rink has been built and is bringing back the fun of being on four wheels! If you plan it for an evening/weekend, you can even enjoy live music, food trucks, and local street performers. There are also a few local roller rinks that can drop the disco ball and bring you back to fun loving times!

Carnival Games

Fun games, brightly lit rides, and (delicious) traditional carnival foods are all available at the Atlantic Fun Park. Get on the ferris wheel and snuggle up (it’s the tallest one in Virginia Beach), try your hand at winning a prize, or simply wander hand in hand taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the carnival together!

Splurge on a Sweet Treat

Whether your sweet tooth craves donuts (check out Amazing Glazed), cupcakes (Just Cupcakes in Town Center is delish), or even something as decadent as chocolate covered gummy bears (you have got to try the ones from The Royal Chocolate) there is something to tickle everyone’s fancy.

Food Truck Roundup

There are lots of awesome food trucks here in Hampton Roads (hello A Bite of Maine!), and there are local food truck meetups (like this post sharing a ton of festivals). It is a great time to not only try delicious, local fare, but you can combine two of your favorite things: good food and the person you love!

Virginia Beach Oceanfront

During the summer, there is SO MUCH going on down at the oceanfront! There are street performers, a fishing pier, open air concerts, and so much more. Plus you have the gorgeous sand and ocean – and did I mention the people watching?! We get something like 12 million visitors every summer, so there is sure to be lots to take in!

Virginia Zoological Park

Not only can you get some gorgeous greenery in the background at the Norfolk Zoo, but there are tons of cool/interesting spots to photograph in! My personal favorite place to go first is the butterfly garden, but the Asian exhibit with the tigers is a close second! Watch out though, you might just fall in love with the red panda and want to take it home with you.

Norfolk Neon Arts District

Hands down, the Neon District is one of my favorite places to take pictures! I’m all about bright, colorful portrait locations and the local street art is second to none. The city has commissioned local artists to decorate the walls and buildings of Norfolk with their own unique artistic spin. This free-flow of different artists has made for an amazingly unique set of paintings and murals all over the Neon District.

Get On the Water

Whether you choose to rent a canoe and spend a lazy afternoon on the lake, frolic hand in hand along a wooded creek, or prefer to grab a jetski and head out onto the open ocean – there are tons of aquatic options here in Hampton Roads!

Have A Picnic

The weather is warm, so take advantage of it and get out to enjoy it! Grab a blanket, pack some delicious treats, and a bottle of bubbly (or even some local craft beer) and find a wooded area to spread out in. Then you two can lounge about, feed each other, toast your glasses, and dream of all the future might hold!
