Today’s post is going to focus on common hesitations we hear when it comes to choosing a wedding photographer, and hopefully put your mind more at ease. Not Sure How To Pick a “Good” Photographer

With so many amazing photographer in our area, how do you pick a “good” photographer?

I always tell people, make sure it’s someone that you get along with. The wedding couple is going to be spending, 6, 8, 10+ hours with their photographers. You owe it to yourself to find a photographer who fits YOU. Also, it helps if you can find someone who can help you relax and make you laugh. (really laugh)

Can the Photographer Get Good Images at my Venue?

This is SUCH an important question! Because it doesn’t matter how pretty your dress, or intricate your details. If the photographer can’t best take advantage of your venue and the available light, you are in trouble!

Feel free to ask to see photos from weddings that were done at that your venue. If the photographer has not photographed there, ask to see examples of similar venues. Pay attention to lighting.

Will the Photographer be Intrusive at the Wedding?

The answer to this question should always be NO.

Photographers are meant to document the wedding day, not take over and make it all about us.

Will I Feel Awkward Around the Photographer on the Wedding Day?

No way! Our job as wedding photographers is to pull out your most real, genuine self and document the love you have for each other. We want to do that by making sure there are lots of laughs, snuggles, and inside jokes between you two.

Eric and I don’t want to just show up on the wedding day and never talk to you again. We want to get to know you, meet your family, and love on you guys hard! Our goal is to make sure you have the most amazing experience, that you couldn’t imagine working with anyone else!

Every photographer is going to have their strengths and weaknesses, the trick is finding out what you can live with and what’s non-negotiable. Look at online reviews such as WeddingWire.com, TheKnot.com, etc. Also ask to chat with past clients, you can get a sense of who the photographer is and how they operate on the wedding day.

Some red flags to watch out for when it comes to photographers:

• Slow delivery of photos (they should under promise and over deliver!)
• Socially awkward
• Poor time management skills
• Poor client communication
• Doesn’t have a good attitude
• Doesn’t take direction well (especially regarding things the client wants)

Photography Style

There are so many different photographic styles: photojournalism, naturalism, modern traditionalism. How do you want your photographer to act on the wedding day – fly on the wall capturing the action or in your face giving direction all day?

What style makes your heart happy? When you look through the photographer’s portfolio, do you like the way they work?

Post Wedding Image Delivery

How long after the wedding are you going to have to wait to get your images?

When will the photographer have a sneak peek ready for you?

Is the photographer giving you all the images? Hi-res, low-res?
