Last Saturday (on All Souls Day!) Hampton Roads teens took over the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art for an evening of goulish fun! There have been Teen Takeover events in the past, but at this very special event, the teens transformed the museum space to celebrate a Halloween zombie prom! All of the attendees were encouraged to come in zombie costumes, and boy did they come decked out and ready to party! Personally, I was blown away by the creativity that was invested in the theatrics of the night (like the dozens of “open wounds” and deadly green/gray skin that seemed to permeate the evening).

In addition to the teens having access to all of the current exhibits, the evening was spent participating in a spooky zombi-fication station, ghoulish dancing, monstrous music, wicked mock-tails, and eerily delicious treats. Then, at the end of the night, after voting had been done, the crowd chose their zombie prom king and queen, who were crowned and then ushered over to the photo booth for a photo!
The Teen Takeover programs are always free events, put on exclusively for teens in middle and high school, and hosted by students from Virginia Beach schools. These awesome events are usually put on a few times a year, so look for the next frighteningly good time to happen in the spring of 2015!
